At the beginning of the experiment, we started with broccoli but they
did not survive so we received a replacement plant called kohlrabi. The
kohlrabi, has a purple stem leading up to a sprout of leafs and leading down to
a ball in the bottom. Our kohlrabi is purple so its parents must have been
dominant for purple genes or homozygous for recessive purple. If purple
color is dominant, then most of my plants offspring’s will be purple. Our plant
will pass its traits through chromosomes that each parent will pass to on to
their offspring through meiosis. Our plant will pass its genetic information
the same way it got his he will pass half of his chromosomes and the other
parent will pass half and a new plant will be formed. The new plant will most
likely have similar traits to our plant however, since half of the new plants
chromosomes are from another plant, it will also have traits from that plant so
it has a possibility of looking like either of his parents. All the varieties
of Brassica oleracea look so different even though they are so similar most
likely because of crossing over during meiosis. So many different forms came
from just one ancestral species through many years of meiosis and creating
different combinations of genes
